Chunky Money Smoothie
I’ve always been a huge fan of smoothies. Addicted may even be a better word. I drink one almost every morning for breakfast – it’s just such an easy, delicious, and quick morning treat!
Recently, I shared this peanut butter banana cold brew smoothie (aka the chunky monkey) on my instagram stories and so many of you asked for the link to the recipe. I realized I’ve never actually posted the recipe on my blog. I literally drink this smoothie 3-4 times a week, it’s sooooo good, and it’s time to finally share this recipe with all of you!

How to make this chunky monkey smoothie?
The main reason I LOVE smoothies is they are so easy to make! In a blender, add 2 chopped frozen bananas. It’s very important that they are frozen so it creates a thick, cold smoothie. I don’t prefer to add ice to thicken the smoothie as I think it can water it down (and if you don’t have a super high-powered blender, the ice may not be blended smooth enough)

Next, add all of the ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.
In the recipe, you will see that there is an option to add another 1/2 cup of milk. Typically, I prefer a thicker smoothie so I use the smaller suggested amount first and add extra liquid as needed to reach my desired consistency. However, you can adjust the liquids and add more to reach your desired consistency if you want it a little runnier. It’s just a preference thing! Also, because the sizes of dates and bananas can differ, you may need more or less liquid to get the right consistency.

Is this healthy?
Yes! This chocolate peanut butter banana cold brew smoothie is packed with wholesome, nutritious ingredients. Bananas are a natural sweetener and thickener, plus are full of potassium. Next, the nut butter helps balance the sweetness and adds natural protein. The cacao powder is full of antioxidants and magnesium. And, the dates are high in fiber and also naturally sweeten this smoothie to keep it refined sugar free.
It tastes just like a chocolate peanut butter milkshake – but it’s good for you + you can drink it in the morning. Basically, this is breakfast dreams coming true!

Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie
A delicious blend of frozen bananas, cacao powder, cold brew coffee, dates cinnamon and almond milk.
Ingredients
- 3 ripe bananas chopped and frozen
- 2 heaping tablespoons peanut butter or nut butter of choice
- 4 teaspoons cacao powder*
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1+1/2 cup almond milk or milk of choice
- 1/2 cup cold brew or more almond milk if don’t want caffeine
- 2 dates pits removed
- Pinch salt
Instructions
-
In a blender, add all of the ingredients except the additional half cup of almond milk and blend until smooth.
-
If smoothie is too thick, add extra milk, 1/4 cup at a time, until you reach your desired consistency (can add more milk if want a thinner smoothie).
-
Pour into 2-3 gasses.
-
Enjoy!
Recipe Notes
Cacao powder tends to be less rich than cocoa powder – so if using cocoa powder instead, may want to use a little less.
If your dates seem too dry or hard, I recommended soaking them in hot water for an hour to overnight to help them soften and blend better in the smoothie.
