This healthy, anti-inflammatory “golden milk” is made with rich coconut milk, spicy sweet turmeric and tons of warming, fall spices. It’s a delicious cozy drink perfect for cool, crisp fall mornings.
Ahhh….it’s the perfect Saturday morning. I’m nestled on my couch, in my over-sized, cozy, warm robe, listening to the storm beat down, and sipping on this delicious Fall spiced golden milk.
Sounds delightful, right?! But you may be asking yourself, what is golden milk?
Golden milk is a healing, anti-inflammatory beverage, popular in Asia (and sometimes referred to there as liquid gold), made primarily with turmeric, of course, & also coconut milk, ginger, and black pepper. It’s quite yummy.
I created my own version by adding Fall spices to the mix.
It’s creamy and rich, slightly spicy from the turmeric and ginger, balanced by the other warm spices of cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg, and perfectly sweet from the rich maple and just a touch of floral honey.
Basically it’s a delicious, cozy drink packed with health benefits. So, yea! You definitely need to try it!
Let’s make some golden milk.
In a sauce pan, add the coconut milk (I didn’t use the canned kind because it can be too rich and thick. Instead I used califia farms almond coconut milk, and I highly recommend it), all the spices (turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg), and maple and honey.
Let’s talk about turmeric for a minute. Turmeric comes from the Curcuma longa plant, which grows in India and other Southeast Asian countries. It has a host of health benefits, including: reduces depression symptoms, fights inflammation, relieves arthritis pain, helps fight cancer, and boosts skin health. It’s a magical, beautiful spice.
It also gives the golden milk its beautiful, rich golden hue.
Back to making this beverage. Once all the ingredients are mixed in the sauce pan, bring to a low boil over medium heat. This will warm up the drink while also bringing out the flavors in the spices.
The final step is to add froth to the drink. If you have a milk frother, which you can purchase here, you can divide the beverage between 2-4 glasses, and individually froth each drink.
If you don’t have a milk frother, you can add the entire mix to a blender and blend for a few seconds, and then pour in the glasses.
Now it’s time to enjoy this golden masterpiece. It’s warm and comforting, slightly spicy, slightly sweet, and pure deliciousness.
It’s the perfect, cozy Fall drink.
It’s also great if you are trying to avoid caffeine as it is caffeine-free. But if you prefer a little energy boost in the morning, you can also add a shot of expresso or cold brew.
Either way, you are going to love it!
