Fresh pink grapefruit and slightly spicy ginger put a fun twist on the classic margarita.

Course Drinks
Prep Time 5 minutes
Seeping Time 1 hour
Servings 2 drinks

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 ounces tequila
  • ½ ounce orange liquor
  • 3 inch piece of ginger cut into chunks
  • ½ cup grapefruit juice fresh squeezed
  • Juice of one lime
  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice juice of an orange wedge
  • 3 teaspoons agave
  • 4-6 sprigs mint
  • 2 grapefruit wedges
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon cane sugar
  • can of ginger beer optional

Instructions

  1. Add tequila, triple sec, and peeled ginger to a cocktail shaker. Muddle the ginger with the alcohol.
  2. Recommended: let sit in fridge for an hour up to 4 hours (if do not have time can skip this step).
  3. Mix together the salt, sugar, and ground ginger to a round shallow dish (make sure it is wider than the top of the glass). Use a lime wedge to wet the rim of your glasses and dip the rim of the glass into the salt mixture. Add in ice cubes.
  4. Add grapefruit juice, lime juice, orange juice, agave and ice to shaker and shake vigorously.
  5. Strain the margarita into the rim salted glasses. Top with a splash of ginger beer (I used diet). Garnish with a grapefruit wedge and fresh mint leaves.

Recipe Notes

* I highly recommend allowing the ginger to seep into the liquor for at least an hour before making the cocktail to get the maximum ginger flavor.

*This drink can be made beforehand and stored in a pitcher in the fridge.

*The splash of ginger beer is optional. It adds a little fizz and extra ginger flavor to the drink.
